The much awaited 488 KM trek from Mombasa to Nairobi to raise Ksh 66,630,000 for the 5500 students of the Olympic Primary has kicked off.
Media personality and head of Rig East Africa Cynthia Nyamai said the project which will be, fully funded by Kenyans goes beyond grass and turf; it’s about nurturing dreams, creating opportunities, and building a brighter future for Kenya through sports.
“We are refurbishing the Olympic Primary field will be refurbished into a 24-hour use, multipurpose pitch with Astro-Turf, bleachers, park benches, lightning, ablution facilities and a tuck shop,”Nyamai told the media during the flagging off ceremony in Mombasa.
Nyamai is leading the team for 488 KM from Mombasa to Nairobi to raise funds and awareness of the project.
She will be walking a total of 30 KM a day.The walk will take her 14 days.
Nyamai commended on the Kibra MP Peter Orero for his continued support and Founder and Chairman of Mombasa Walk Movement Major (Rtd) Idris Abdirahman for gracing the occassion.
“We would also like to thank the Mombasa Walk Movement for their presence and for walking 5km in Mombasa to create awareness about project #488forkibra,”Nyamai said.
Founder and Chairman of the Movement Major (Rtd) Idris Abdirahman said the primary aim is to raise funds for the construction of a 24hr Olympic Primary School multipurpose field—a project that holds immense promise for the community.
The amount required for the completion of the project is Ksh 66,630,000.
Nyamai commended on the movement for joining them for the Friday walk from Mombasa to Mariakani.
She said works of the pitch involves construction of a football stadium facility complete with bleachers all round the pitch, teams changing for both boys and girls, abulition facilities for both girls and boys, stadium lighting, drainage facilities, anti-climb fencing around the pitch, complete marking of pitch to approval, pitch accessories including goal posts.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday last week.
Nyamai said she has offered to walk a total of 488 KM from Mombasa to Nairobi in 14 days to raise funds and awareness of the project.
Nyamai said Kibra will no longer be the biggest slum in East Africa but the rising of Africa .
