A Nairobi-based car dealer has been arraigned in court over allegations of defrauding a customer of nearly Sh 9.9 million in a fraudulent vehicle purchase scheme.
Kenneth Njiru Njagi, alongside his company UK Auto Imports Limited, formerly Kensville Motors Ltd, were arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and denied the charges of cheating contrary to Section 315 of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, between August 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, Njagi allegedly tricked Todd Ashton, an employee of Ericsson Kenya Ltd, into paying Sh 9,891,916 for a vehicle that was never delivered.
The charges indicate that Njagi used fraudulent means to obtain the funds, leading to his eventual arrest on March 4, 2025.
He was released on a bond of Sh 2 Million or an alternative cashbail of Sh 1 Million.
The matter is to be mentioned on 17th March.
