City Car Dealer Charged with Defrauding Client of Sh 3 Million

Nairobi based car dealer Joseph Wambui, popularly known as Khalif Kairo, has been charged with defrauding a client of Sh 3,045,000 in a failed car importation deal.

Kairo appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitumbi and denied the charge brought against him.

He was arrested a day before his arraignment and is facing a charge of cheating under Section 315 of the Penal Code.

According to the police, between October 5 and October 7, 2024, at Westlands Business Park in Nairobi, Kairo allegedly used fraudulent tricks to obtain Sh 3,045,000 from Dan Odhiambo Odundo.

He reportedly deceived Odundo by falsely claiming he could import a Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 TSI from Japan through his company.

Kairo, a well-known figure in Kenya’s auto industry, runs Kai and Kairo Limited, a car dealership based in Westlands, Nairobi.However, he has faced multiple allegations from clients who claim to have been defrauded in similar car importation deals.

The court granted Kairo cash bail of Sh 500,000.

The case is set for mention on February 13, 2025.
