Former Kenyan presidential candidate Mohamed Abduba Dida famously known as Mwalimu Dida is currently serving a jail term of seven years in the United States after being convicted in 2022.

To the shock of many Kenyans, Mwalimu Dida has been in prison since November 18, 2022 when he was convicted on two separate accounts at the Big Muddy Correctional Center in Illinois.

On the first account he was found guilty of stalking and intimidating his victim for which he was handed two years in jail and on the second account he was found guilty of failure to respect restrain orders from his victim for which he was handed five years imprisonment.

The former teacher ran unsuccessful campaigns for Kenya’s presidency in 2013 and 2017 but finished ahead of some well-established politicians.

News about his sentencing came as a shock to many Kenyans due to the values and principles he held during his campaigns. However, seemingly, he carries his vocal demeanor to prison as sources indicate that he has sued the prison facility over violations of his rights as a prisoner.

Dida has complained about violation of his religious rights being allowed only one Friday prayer and no prayer before and after sunset. Furthermore, despite his request for a full shower on Friday before prayer, he has been offered none indicating in his petition that even a drop of urine would nullify his prayer.

The former Kenya’s presidential candidate who apparently was in the US for a doctoral program in psychology is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2029.
