Mbagathi Farewell Home Attendants Charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony

by Irene Onyango

Three attendants from Mbagathi Farewell Home have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony after allegedly attempting to fraudulently obtain money meant for clearing a hospital bill.

Elizabeth Aoga, Jackline Njagi, and Jackline Owino appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and denied the charges against them.

It is alleged that Aoga, Njagi, and Owino conspired on December 5, 2024, at Mbagathi County Hospital to obtain money from Ann Mbugua under false pretenses. The funds were intended to settle the outstanding hospital bill of James Mbugua, also known as Joseph.

The court heard that on December 13, 2024, at Mbagathi County Hospital, the trio misled Police Constable Jesse Ogalo by falsely claiming that they had not released Mbugua’s body from the farewell home. They then allegedly presented another body, despite knowing the information to be false.

The trio now faces charges of demanding money with menaces, contrary to Section 302 of the Penal Code. Court filings indicate that the accused demanded Sh 30,000 from Ann Mbugua with the intent to unlawfully acquire the funds.

The court released the trio on a bond of Sh 200,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000.

The matter is set for mention for pre-trial on February 26, 2025.
