Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has filed a defamation suit against a Kakamega-based blogger whom he accuses of linking him to the disappearance and subsequent death of Munyuki High School Principal Simon Isiaho Shange.
In the case lodged before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, Nabwera, through the law firm of Danstan Omari & Associates, is seeking KSh20 million in damages from George Opunga Tamata, the blogger at the centre of the dispute. The legislator also wants the court to compel Tamata to delete the alleged defamatory posts, issue a public apology, and refrain from publishing any further statements about him.
According to the pleadings, Nabwera claims that on October 3, 2025, Tamata, using Facebook pages identified as Kakamega Post, Malava Online, and Lugari Watchdog, published posts insinuating that the MP was connected to the principal’s disappearance and death.
The posts, which circulated widely on social media, allegedly suggested that the teacher had “vanished after defying an MP” and challenged Nabwera to “come clean on the death of this teacher.”
Nabwera says the statements were false, malicious, and crafted to paint him as a criminal and unfit for public office. “The publications have incited unknown individuals to threaten attacks on my home in Lugari,” he says in an affidavit, adding that the remarks were politically motivated and intended to damage his reputation.
The court documents include screenshots of the posts, a demand letter sent to the blogger, and messages allegedly calling for violence against the MP.
Nabwera further notes that the body of the late principal was later recovered from River Kipkaren and that he had conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, urging for calm and allowing the authorities to complete investigations.
He now wants the court to issue a permanent injunction stopping the blogger from publishing further defamatory material, an order for a public retraction and apology, and compensation of KSh20 million for reputational damage.
The matter has been filed under a certificate of urgency and is pending directions from the court.
